Blu-ray
Disc and HD-DVD are the new optical disc formats that are positioned as
replacements for DVDs with HD content.
Could
it be the porn industry that decides what will be the format to succeed between
the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray? That's what some analytics discussed, they believe the
format they pornography producers choose will be the winner in the market.
The
pornography industry will probably play an important role in determining which
of the two DVD formats - Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD - will be the winner in the
battle to replace DVD for high-definition content. It
also seems that were porn movies, which declined balance between VHS and
Betamax. Some of these companies have already opted for the Blu-Ray for its
greater capacity, 50GB, 30GB compared to HD-DVD.
“The
pornography industry, which generates an estimated US$57 billion in annual
revenue worldwide, has always been a fast leader when it comes to the use of
new technology, according to analysts.
Porn
studio Digital Playground, which claims to have produced the largest number of
high definition movies in the industry over the past three years, said it is
choosing Blu-ray Disc for all of its “interactive” films because of its greater
capacity. It also selected Blue-ray because Sony chose the format for its
PlayStation 3 (PS3) box, due out in November.”
Blu-ray
is backed by the entertainment giant Sony. Philips Electronics, Panasonic, LG
Electronics, and movie studios Disney and Fox are other companies that support
it.
Blu-ray
offers storage up to 50GB capacity, or up to nine hours of high definition
content. On the other hand, the HD-DVD has a capacity of 30 GB and is supported
by companies like Toshiba, NEC and Warner Home Video.
Paul
O'Donovan, an analyst at Gartner Inc., said support Porn DVD format will be an
"important factor" for the implementation of the technology by the
market in general, but even more important is the adoption of technology Sony.
